Biographie / Biography:

Bachelor of Fine Arts – Concordia University – Integrative Music Studies

Certificate – McGill Conservatory of Music – Music Theory & Ear Training.

Certified Montreal Academy teacher since 2012

Originally from Taiwan, Catherene has discovered her love for music and has started her music lessons at age of 5. She came to Montreal in 1994 and continued her music studies in McGill Music Conservatory, where she received her certificate in Music Theory and Ear Training with distinction.

She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Concordia University, where she studied under the tutelage of Gregory Chaverdian, and has performed in concerts including piano solo, concerto with orchestra, chamber ensemble and choir performance.

After graduating, she started teaching and piano accompanying as part of her professional career. She has performed extensively with musicians of other instruments and vocalists mostly in classical, contemporary, and popular music.

With several years of teaching experience, Catherene is an exceptional and inspiring teacher in classical piano performance, music theory, sight reading, ear training and pop music. Her teaching skills have developed through conservatory classes, university seminars and related workshops, as well as the experiences with her students, whom she has helped to succeed in their music goals regardless of their age or/and abilities.

While her teaching method emphasizes good piano technique and a healthy and structured approach to playing and practicing, Catherene is also flexible and patient and incorporates creativity and humor to distinguish her teaching style. She knows that every student is different and that is why she designs each lesson according to the student's personal goals and needs, ensuring the full development of their potential.

For Catherene, her greatest joy is to share the beauty of music with all her students and to see her students’ improvement and inspiration in their music learning.
