Biographie / Biography:
Certified Montreal Academy of Music teacher since 2016.
A wonderful addition to our staff. Dorian is widely recognized in his community for his gifted playing, which
has been described as
“impeccable”, and possesses the ability to move his audience to tears. He has been awarded scholarships such as the Jean-Paul
Sévilla Scholarship, Albert Tunis Memorial
Scholarship, Mitchell Sharp Commemorative Bursary, Keith and Ross MacMillan Scholarship,
and Richard Wott Memorial Scholarship.
Dorian is working on his Master’s in piano interpretation at L’Université de Montréal under the
direction of Jimmy Brière. He obtained his BMus at the University of Ottawa.
He has been teaching piano and theory for since 2011 and teaches the art of piano interpretation, which includes all major genres of classical music, even jazz and
contemporary music. He has much experience with popular music and music theatre as well.
Dorian’s teaching style combines his deep knowledge of piano technique with musicality, which
helps students not only to learn music better and play their instrument more easily, but also to
develop themselves as musicians.
He encourages students to develop a strong theoretical background, which enormously aids
in the listening, understanding, playing, and enjoyment of all kinds of music. He incorporates the
teaching of skills such as ear training, sightreading, sightsinging,
theory, and analysis.
He recommends that advanced students explore training in music history and harmony. Above all,
Dorian’s main desire is to pass on his passion and understanding of music to students, so that they will be able to carry music forward into their communities.
Apart from performing and teaching, Dorian has a passion for improvisation and composition and has been hired as an arranger and music engraver. He has written music for theatre productions such as Alice in Wonderland. Dorian also works as an accompanist, and theory tutor for undergraduate university students.
Recommended for students of all levels, and especially for students aged 16 and over who will benefit from learning a skill set tailored to a better understanding of music.
