Biographie / Biography:
Certified Montreal Academy of Music teacher since 2016.
- BA in Music (Jazz Guitar) – University of Montreal (ongoing);
- BA in Portuguese Literature and Linguistics - University of Brasilia, 2011;
A wonderful and talented musician, composer and lyricist who joined our team in 2016, Antonio began his musical studies at the age of six on the piano. At 16, he taught himself how to play the guitar. He studied both with private teachers and at music schools and conservatories in different countries (Diapasón, Asunción, Paraguay; Music School of Brasília; private classes in Italy and Panama).
Playing from 2007 to 2015 with his group, he produced two original albums (2010; 2014), played regularly in events and festivals, and toured Portugal (2015). The group’s style consisted in mixing different musical genres, such as blues, rock, jazz with Brazilian harmonies and rhythms (bossa nova, baião, choro, MPB, samba). He also regularly worked as a session musician in other musical groups and projects of Brasilia’s musical scene, as well as a composer and arranger for independent movie soundtracks.
Since 2007, he has been teaching guitar, piano and music theory to different age groups and levels. His teaching style focuses on tailored classes according to the student’s needs, with clearly set and organized syllabuses that provide a consistent learning curve, developing musical intuition, technique and theoretical knowledge, and gradually increasing in complexity as the student progresses. He teaches Brazilian rhythms and harmonies, contemporary genres such as blues, rock and jazz, and music theory and perception.
Above all, teaching and playing music is an infinite source of learning and growth: it’s all about producing consistent dialogues and paths, finding the common grounds, the bridges and interstices where we can produce, or provoke, unexpected unions between different elements in a natural and harmonious manner.
