Biographie / Biography:

Certified Montreal Academy of Music teacher since 2016.

Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, trumpet player and composer Alexis
has made his name as a musician who can cross styles and specialties. He is equally at home
playing intimate small group Jazz as he is playing lead-trumpet with a Big Band, and is
described in New Zealand as “the leading local voice in Jazz trumpet”.

In NZ and Australia he is known both as a leader and a sideman. He performs as a leader
and tours regularly with his original quartet and quintet.

Between 2008 and 2016, he was Artist Teacher in Jazz trumpet and small ensembles at the NZ School of Music, and maintained a busy
teaching studio.

He has appeared in concert with Jazz and Blues luminaries including Patti Austin, Chris Cain, Kurt Elling, Mike Gibbs, Clay Jenkins, Christine Jensen, Bennie Maupin, Dick Oatts, Bob
Sheppard and Alex Sipiagin.

Lex gained his Master's degree in Jazz from McGill University in 2014. He plays regularly with the The National Jazz Orchestra of Montreal, The Effendi Jazzlab Orchestra, Joel Miller's Dream Cassette, and other notable bands, as well as with his own quartet.

In 2009 he won a NZ Tui award for "Best Jazz Album" for his lead-trumpet playing on the
NZSM Jazz Orchestra's album Run For Cover, featuring Jazz greats Bill Cunliffe, Clay Jenkins and Bob Sheppard. He also received a nomination in 2015 for The Jac's album Nerve.

June 2014 saw the release of his debut album, featuring renowned Montreal musicians.

He was recently awarded the Edwin Carr Scholarship in Composition for professional
development. This enabled him to return to North America to undertake lessons with Grammy Award-winner Ingrid Jensen and Juno Award-winner Christine Jensen.

As a teacher, Alexis has maintained a full studio for the past 10 years, as well as
holding teaching posts at McGill University, the NZ School of Music, Wellington
Boys College (NZ), and St. Patrick's College (NZ).

A talented musician with a passion for music!
