Biographie / Biography:
Certified Montreal cademy of Music teacher since 2017.
A phenomenal teacher who goes above and beyond for his students. Blair
is an amazing teacher for all age groups, and especially for younger children! Since 1980, Blair has performed and recorded on percussion and drum-set in a variety of musical contexts - from contemporary chamber music with the ARRAYMUSIC ensemble, Ensemble Contemporaine de Montreal (ECM), and Societe de Musique Contemporaine du Quebec (SMCQ), to orchestral music with the Toronto Symphony and the Esprit Orchestra, through to free jazz with Barry Romberg's Random Access, world music with The Ritual Party, pop jazz with Kim Richardson, and blues/rock recordings with artists such as Serena Ryder and Myles Goodwyn, and many diverse avenues in between. Blair has been a featured soloist with ensembles and as a solo artist, at festivals in London, Paris, New York, Kyoto, Jakarta, Mexico City, Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, and on CBC national radio.
Blair has three degrees from the University of Toronto (B.Mus, B.Ed, M.Mus), and a Doctoral degree from the University of Montreal (D.Mus).
Blair has been the artistic director of the internationally acclaimed Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan ensemble since 1992, and is also the artistic director and co-founder of the Hudson Music Festival, which started in 2007.
In January 2009, Blair took over the April Wine drum chair and -- along side his continued work with Array Music, ECCG and other projects -- toured and recorded with the Juno award-winning group for three and a half years. Blair recently received a Hall of Fame Juno award and in 2009, he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall
