Biographie / Biography:
Montreal Academy of Music teacher since 2017.
Teaches students 13 years and over.
Melina started with private lessons studying classical piano at the age of 4. She followed the rigorous curriculum of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, achieving the highest level, the Performer’s Certificate, after completing all 10 grades in practical exams as well as ear-training, theory, harmony and history. She is qualified to teach students following the same curriculum in classical piano at any level.
Melina continued her studies in classical piano at Marianopolis College, completing a double DEC in Music and Health Sciences in 2005. She then went on to McGill University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s of Music in 2008, with classical piano as her main instrument. At the same time, she started studying voice and jazz piano.
Since graduating, Melina has been a professional performer on the Montreal jazz and pop scene, where she performs jazz standards, pop covers and her own original songs. In early 2017, she just returned from a 5-month contract overseas as a lounge performer in South Korea.
Today, she continues to sing at venues such as the House of Jazz, the Casino of Montreal, and various weddings and events.
As a songwriter, she has recorded two albums and countless unreleased tracks, ranging from pop to blues to rnb. She has coached young emerging artists in song-writing in both English and French, using the piano as a guide, teaching about how to write interesting chord progressions, fluid text writing, melodic sketching and how to accompany yourself on the piano.
Her style of teaching is upbeat, encouraging, and with just the right amount of push to get the best out of her students, young and old. Her goal is to ensure students have fun, but also see significant progress in themselves. With Melina you can explore what’s possible!
